Back To School and New Medical Problems

I like to post longer/long updates here because let’s face it, no one wants to read a two-page status update. This way, if someone wants to read this, they can or otherwise keep scrolling Facebook.

Last year Mini Mayhem was in and out of the hospital three times. Twice, she had UTIs and we learned that she has Grade 4 vesicoureteral reflux which is currently stable and she is being followed by a urologist in Alabama. She had a renal ultrasound in March of this year to follow up and all was well with exception to it showing a possible 5 cm ovarian cyst. Her urologist wanted to follow up with a pelvic ultrasound at our next trip to AL in July. The results showed the cyst had increased in size to 6.8 cm. The urologist referred her to a general surgeon which she sees September 2. We should find out that day if the cyst will require surgical intervention. Typically, cysts will resolve on their own but to not go into detail, her’s likely will not.

She has an appointment tomorrow with her ortho to follow up on her hip dislocation and to also evaluate a new issue we noticed. She hasn’t given us any signs of her hip bothering her any more than normal but her ribs are protruding on her right side, making her chest asymmetrical. Sometimes this can be a result of spine curvature (scoliosis) but her spine appears to be straight after seeing her pediatrician. Her ortho will do x-rays tomorrow that will hopefully confirm that.

It seems like once we get one thing stabilized, BOOM, here comes another problem popping up.

ALSO, in recent news, she will be starting school soon, in an actual classroom. Eeeeeeeeeeek! She will be attending a medically fragile class. I am excited for her in the fact that she will be back to getting her therapies and getting to socialize but my Mama heart, ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh boy it hurts to know she will be away from me. She needs this and I know it will be great for her. I have visited the classroom before, and her Daddy will see it Friday. She will have a great teacher, wonderful assistants and an awesome nurse in her classroom.

So many changes and it can be overwhelming. Not knowing how things will turn out regarding her new medical issues leaves me anxious. I am glad I will have some answers tomorrow about her ribs…..I hope.
