Who Is And What Is A Mouthy Medical Mama?
My only child, a daughter, was born in 2011 via emergency c-section. She lost over half of her blood volume, damaging her kidneys and a section of her brain. She received a kidney transplant in 2012 and a second in 2018. She is medically complex with 16 treating physicians, 30 medical diagnoses of which 24 are current, takes 14 medications daily (some of those twice daily), has an additional 6 PRN (as needed) medications....and those are subject to increase at any time and 18 pieces of medical equipment.
She will affectionately be referred to as "Mini Mayhem" or more simply, "MM" in this blog.
I find it a blessing that God had enough confidence in me to be her mother and to know that she would be loved through ANYTHING. It may have taken me a minute to learn to question doctors, procedures, reason for tests, why procedures were done certain ways and to sometimes say NO, but I am a huge advocate for my daughter. I AM HER VOICE, and I will definitely speak up for what I feel is right, wrong, needs done or changed. I don't sit back quietly and simply go along with whatever someone says. If I have questions, I ask them. If I later think of additional questions, I ask for answers and I get them. I am a "helicopter mom" and it has paid off on multiple occasions. I learned very quickly that my kid was non textbook and what may be typical or non-typical doesn't always apply to the situation. Although mouthy does mean to speak audaciously, I do and will respectfully speak my piece. I won't remain quiet if something needs to be said but I will do so calmly. There have been only a few times where I have assertively had to speak to someone.

Behind the title of being a Mouthy Medical Mama, I am a (mostly) respectfully opinionated, god-fearing, supporter of the 2nd amendment, slightly to the left of a full right wing with a bad habit of biting the inside of my jaw, avid coffee drinker, creative type and typically never without a camera or will be snapping photos with my phone, have a VERY low tolerance for those who avoid responsibility and those who deny accountability, or both.
