Idle Hands & The Power of Positivity

I've never really made resolutions for the new year in the past.  There has never been something that I wanted to significantly change.....until this year.  I will not so much call it a new year resolution as much as I would consider it holding myself accountable. Change is difficult and even recognizing and accepting that something needs to change doesn't come easy. The last two years have likely been and will be my most challenging.   I have been through the toughest emotional circumstance I could ever imagine, lost four nurses who cared for Maci, and failed two semesters of nursing school.  Instead of giving up, I have kept going.  It's been hard. My wings had been clipped.  Emotionally, it was devestatingly painful.  How had I worked so hard to fly, only to be grounded.  I had grown comfortable flying.....with everything going "right".  Once back on the ground, I had to learn to stand on my own two feet again.  I had to regain...

Don't Wish It Away

Every day I experience a life changing process. I have friends going through life changing times right now....death of a loved one, health scares, bouncing back from health scares/issues, preparing for the birth of a child, job or career changes. We always seem to wish away the bad things in our lives. I am sure guilty of it. We just want it to pass, to get through it, get it over with so we can move on. The thing is, even though it is a difficult time or experience, you should be learning something and you will be stronger when it's done. I think sometimes even through the good times we want to rush things along. People get in a rush to be finished with college just to work the rest of their lives. People wish to be married at a young age when they should take their time and be sure they are with the person they are truly supposed to be with. The Bible even says, "love is patient". Too many people hurry it, rush it, and if it is really a love that's worth it, i...

A Small Regret

In high school, as electives, I took business classes. Business Law, Business Dynamics, Accounting I & II. I thought I would benefit from them but NOOOOO. What I should have done is taken every class Mrs. Tudor taught and learned to sew! There have been MANY times in my life, including now, that I regret not taking Home Economics!!!! If you go into the field of business, you can learn what you need to learn in college. However, some day you will likely have a family and if you have a little girl, SEWING can greatly benefit you.....Maci can't wear an accounting spreadsheet. She COULD wear a pair of ruffle pants or a dress that I made....if only I could SEW! With continuous issues in getting Maci nursing care, inability to afford a full time sitter while I were to work, I became desperate in trying to think of some way to bring in money at home. I love Scentsy and considered being an independent consultant but I am so unsure of the amount of time I would be able to dedicate to p...

Mexican Lasagna Recipe

I went online looking for some recipes to try using ground beef. I thought Mexican lasagna sounded good and decided to try this recipe. It was very good and we will be having it again! Mine didn't look quite like the picture online but I wasn't going for presentation. LOL Next time I do think that I will try using chorizo instead of cooking ground pork sausage. 1 lb mild pork sausage 2 lbs ground beef1 (15-ounce) can jalapeno ranch-style pinto beans (recipe said drain but I did not) 1 can Rotel (can also mix a small can of green chilis witha 10 oz can of diced tomatoes which adds more green chilis) 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1 (10 3/4-ounce) can cream of celery soup 1 (10 3/4-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup 1 (10-ounce) can enchilada sauce 9 (6-inch) corn tortillas 2 cups (8 ounces) shredded Cheddar cheese 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Monterey Jack cheese 1 medium avocado, chopped (optional) Cook sausage and ground ...

It Is What It Is

Why are so many offended by the truth? There's just not enough of it. I guess it's true that sometimes the truth does hurt. If you keep something a secret, if you aren't proud of it then that makes you ashamed of it. That means it is probably wrong. If it looks, walks and quacks like a duck, it's likely......A DUCK. A duck will always be a duck even if it dresses up as a bear. I call this.....a spade.  That means I call a spade, a spade. This is a wonderful song and video by Casting Crowns.

A Little Facebook FYI

Just a few facebook hints for the clueless. You do not always have to be friends with someone on Facebook to see their status or photos. If someone you are friends with is tagged in the status, photo or a comment or if someone you are friends with, comments on a photo or status, it can show up in the feed and be seen by others who are merely friends with the person who commented or was tagged. For example the other day, a friend of mine, " Friend A " updated her status and I commented. Another friend of mine, " Friend B " also commented on the status of " Friend A " even though " Friend A " and " Friend B " are not facebook friends. The lesson to be learned here is.......deleting someone, especially the wrong someone, does not mean that your page becomes a big secret.  EPIC FAIL . To be a real success at what you attempted to do, you will need to delete and block mutual friends of those you wish to keep things from,  especially  their ...

Rare Scare

The hubs gave me quite the scare last Tuesday (2/8).  When everything happened, I barely had time or sense to contact his family by the time I had gotten to the hospital.  At that point, I really didn't know what was goin on, exactly and I was very anxious to see him.  Once inside the hospital I could NOT make a phone call and my texts would barely get out. Hubs got very hot/sweaty and woozy that morning at work. He went into his boss's office to sit down and soon after the right side of his face went numb and his left hand clenched into a fist on its own. He started having trouble breathing and his chest was hurting (not tight, just hurt). I was on my way to get him and called to check on him and he couldn't talk. I spoke to one of his coworkers who said he was really starting to have trouble breathing and thought they should call an ambulance so I asked them to please do so and I would meet them at the hospit...
